Tucked inside Bass Point Reserve at Shell Cove, this four hectare cove has been a protected aquatic reserve since 1982, and the headland keeps it calm in most swells. Snorkellers stay in the shallow inner bay with its rock pools and seagrass, while divers follow the channel out to an amphitheatre of rock walls where grey nurse sharks, blue groper, fiddler rays and cuttlefish are regulars.

Good to know: nothing is taken here, not even an empty shell, and hands stay off the soft corals. Car park and toilets at the top, then a short walk down with stairs.
