From West Head Road the track drops through Ku-ring-gai Chase to the Basin, past some of Sydney's finest Aboriginal rock engravings, with wallabies grazing near the campground at the bottom.
Good to know: around six kilometres return with a steady climb back, and the West Head lookout itself is a short stroll from the car park.
